March 3
White Pine
Elevations, slope angles and aspects:
7000-11000', angles over 35°, north facing aspects.
Avalanche activity:
Point release sluffing on south facing and a few rollers on off aspects.
Slopes skied:
Red Baldy northwest facing.
Snow conditions:
Recent storm snow had settled to about 6".Winds from the north following the storm scoured upper elevation ridges, leaving only a few inches,
adding drifted pockets, lower. Drifting was non reactive to ski cutting. Sunny skies and daytime heating produced some limited wet activity in sun exposed, warming off aspects, probably crusted when cooled.
Weather:
Bluebird with mild temperatures.
Evaluation:
Stable snow conditions. Future instability would be, once again, from increased wind and or warming.
